Avocado Chocolate Mousse

I know that these three words don’t exactly fit together. And I’ll admit I was HIGHLY skeptical of this idea when I first heard of it. There’s just no way avocado can be turned into a decadent chocolate dessert. And the first time I experimented with this recipe… it didn’t. My “mousse” was far less appealing, with a brown-greenish tint that looked more to me like mud than it did dessert. But with a bit of tweaking and extra love I am proud to say that, as a former avocado hater, this chocolate mousse is nothing short of delicious. The avocado and cacao provide unlimited health benefits, ranging from healthy fats to omega-3 fatty acids to antioxidants. You could even have this nourishing treat for breakfast!

Avocado Chocolate Mousse (serves 2):

  • 1 avocado
  • 2 tbsp. cacao powder (cocoa powder works fine too)
  • 1 tbsp. coconut or almond milk
  • 2 tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp. coconut sugar
  1. Add all ingredients to a food processor or blender. Combine until smooth.
  2. Remove the blade and transfer the mousse to a bowl. Let sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  3. Serve cool.
  4. You can modify the recipe and tweak the sweetness levels depending on how strong of a sweet tooth you have!
